Rotors:
Sprinkler heads used for larger areas, generally with 30-50 feet radius

Sprays: 
Stationary sprinkler that emits a fine mist suitable for smaller turf areas and landscape.

Valves: 
Typically located in the yard, controls the flow of water to each zone
Controller:
Generally located in garage, it provides the brains for your system.  All programming of duration, start times and frequency are done at the controller.
Zone: 
Area of turf or landscape covered by a specific set of sprinkler heads
Backflow Device: 
Apparatus used to protect the drinking water from backflow contamination

Master Valve: 
Not used by all installers, this valve is located near the water source and prevents water pressure to the yard unless the system is running.

Drip Irrigation: 
Low volume irrigation suited for landscape and hard to irrigate areas
GPM:  Gallons per minute -- whether meter or well, a
system must be designed to match the water supply.
PSI:  Pounds per square inch -- measure of the water pressure
